Overview

We have a multi-year collaboration with Siemens, later Rolls-Royce Electrical, to develop an internal engineering simulation product that revolutionizes how engineers access computational resources.

The Challenge

Engineers at Rolls-Royce Electrical faced flexibility problems when running computer simulations on on-premise hardware. Each simulation requires different hardware specifications, making it difficult to maintain the correct environment every time an engineer needed a custom calculation.

Our Solution

We shifted the environment to Azure Cloud and designed a user-friendly web platform where engineers can easily create and manage virtual machines tailored to their needs. The platform supports multiple permission levels, budget control, custom VM images, and complete Azure synchronization — all without requiring any technical knowledge of cloud architecture.

Key Features

Virtual Machine lifecycle management
Role-based user accounts
Budget control and cost tracking
Custom VM images
Historical runtime and cost data
Azure Active Directory integration

Results

Engineers and researchers can now use custom computation in a very cost-effective way. The platform saves significant money at scale while dramatically improving researcher productivity and reducing environment setup time.
